When I first considered IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) pigmentation treatment for my hands, sun damage had started to take a toll. The once smooth and youthful skin was marred by discolouration, and I found myself hiding my hands. I had tried countless creams and serums, but nothing seemed to work. That's when a friend recommended the Aspen Hair and Beauty IPL pigmentation treatment that she had had, and the results were incredible - her hands had regained a more youthful appearance, and the brown spots had gone.
The process started with a consultation with Lorna, who is an IPL and Laser skin specialist at Aspen and also the owner. Lorna examined and photographed my hands and explained how IPL works—delivering pulses of light to target pigmentation and stimulate collagen production. She reassured me and showed me before-and-after pictures of what I could expect the results to be.
Lorna applied a cooling gel. The IPL device was then moved across the surface of my skin, emitting flashes of light. While the sensation was slightly uncomfortable—a bit like the snap of a rubber band—it was entirely bearable. The session lasted about 20 minutes, and by the end of it, my hands felt slightly warm but otherwise fine. There was no redness or irritation, which was a relief; however, already, I could see that the patches of brown were darker - Lorna explained that in the next 7 days, they would get darker as the pigment rose to the top layer of the skin and then simply slough off-
within a week, those darkened spots started to shed, revealing fresher, clearer skin underneath.
The results after just one session were remarkable. Though I could still see the brown spots, they were significantly lighter. Encouraged by this initial success, I couldn't wait for my next session in three weeks' time. I completed a series of three treatments over a few months. With each session, the improvement was more pronounced.
What pleased me as a bonus was that the brown spots disappeared, and my hands looked youthful by the end of the process. It was as though years of ageing had been reversed. I no longer hesitated to show my hands or wear rings that drew attention to them. Friends and family noticed the difference, too, often commenting on how much younger my hands looked ( quite a few of my family members are now Aspen clients, too)
